Materials: Vocabulary Memory Game
At This Station Kids Will... play a memory matching game two different ways. The first time they play they will play memory by matching the cards that read the same thing. Half of the cards have vocabulary terms on them, the other half have the corresponding definitions. The second time they play students will match vocabulary words with their definition. In case you have never played memory, it is played by shuffling the cards and laying them all face down on the table. Flip over one card and then flip over a second card to try and find its match. If the cards match, remove them from the game. If they do not match, flip them back over and the next person takes their turn.
Differentiation: Because this station is not very complex, differentiation is a bit more difficult. You can also encourage students to think of the matching card before they flip a second card over if they need an extra challenge. If kids need a greater challenge they can make their own matching game to play with their partner using symbols, words and numbers. If children need more support they can play with the cards face up.
Formative Assessment: While walking around the stations you should hear students repeating the vocabulary words and the definitions to their partners.
